Let’s just admit it. Life is messy.

As a person who revels in the cleanliness of a show home and organizes her clothes drawers for fun, I can personally attest that the messiness of living can be…frustrating. OK, actually, it’s infuriating. And yet, somehow, in the midst of all the darkness and craziness and brokenness that serve as the bulk of human experience, there’s these flashes of light. Refections of brilliance bouncing off of the glass of the human heart that’s far more vivid and beautiful because it’s broken than it would be if it were perfect.

To those of you who feel ashamed because of your imperfection, your messiness, know that Heavenly Father LOVES the messy. He loves it because it allows you to turn to Him and grow in your relationship with Him in a way you never have before. Also remember that we’re all a work-in-progress! Your neighbor with the perfect yard, well-behaved kids, and cute clothes, that one kid who goes to your school who is always at every activity and is friends with EVERYONE, they both need Christ’s saving grace just as much as you do.

My invitation to you today is to, if only for 24 hours, allow yourself to let go of the perfect. Take a deep breath. Let yourself laugh. Let yourself cry. Read your favorite book or watch your favorite movie. Throw on your hoody and sweats and relax, or if you have work or school, treat yourself to some positive thinking. Just for one day, embrace your imperfections and realize that when you rely on Jesus Christ, your best IS good enough. Try it. See how you feel.
